
The Milton Town Manager has confirmed the name of a Milton police sergeant who was shot and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries while responding to a report of a structure fire on Main Street in Milton.Officials confirmed that Sergeant Paul Locke was injured in the line of duty on Wednesday. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was released from the hospital overnight.State Police said the incident was eventually contained to the area of 78 Main Street. Main Street reopened to the public just after midnight.Investigators said they were called to a home on Main Street just before 7 p.m. for a report of a fire and when first responders and officers arrived, they were met with gunfire. VSP said the suspect was barricaded inside the home.Locke was injured and was transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center by ambulance. At this point, it is not clear if the shooting was targeted.Multiple agencies from Chittenden and Franklin counties responded to the scene to assist. Right now, no one is in custody. NBC5’s crew saw the VSP Major Crime Unit arrive on scene on Thursday morning.Police were busy interviewing neighbors on Thursday as the investigation into the incident continues. Neighbors told us that they were shocked at what happened overnight.Police have not identified the suspect at this point in their investigation, but they said they are already familiar with the person. There is no ongoing threat to the public.The Vermont State Police is managing and investigating this incident. The VSP response involves the Major Crime Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Field Force Division, and special teams including the Tactical Services Unit, Bomb Squad and Crisis Negotiation Unit.
