New York Jets quarterback Jordan Travis announced his intention to retire from football on Wednesday after an unsuccessful rehab process from a serious injury he sustained in college.Travis, 24, was drafted by the Jets in the fifth round of last year’s NFL draft. He was coming off a college season in which he finished fifth in Heisman Trophy voting, completing 63.9% of his passes with 20 touchdowns and two interceptions while leading Florida State to an 11-0 mark. However, Travis’ 2023 season was cut short in the final game against North Alabama. During the first quarter, on a scramble up the middle of the field, Travis was tackled from behind, sustaining a gruesome injury to his left leg.Despite the injury concern, the Jets still drafted Travis, hoping he would make a full recovery. Travis spent the 2024 season on the Jets’ reserve/not-football injury list (NFI).Travis continued to try to work his way back onto the football field, but eventually, he hit a roadblock.”On November 18, 2023, my life took an unexpected turn,” Travis said in a statement. “I gave everything I had to the rehab process but despite all my efforts, my leg never responded the way we hoped. After much prayer and consultation with the doctors, medical experts and my agent, I’ve been medically advised to retire from the game I love so deeply.”Travis, a native of West Palm Beach, Florida, will be placed on the Jets’ reserve/retired list.”Jordan has informed us of his intent to retire due to the injury he sustained while at Florida State,” GM Darren Mougey said in a statement. “It is unfortunate that he was unable to get back on the field after working so hard. We support his decision and wish him only the best.” Travis finished his college career as the second-most-winningest quarterback in Florida State history. He finished first in total touchdowns, with 99, and total offense, racking 10,665 yards.Video below: 2025 NFL draft wraps up in Green Bay
