
Several buildings were evacuated on Lime Kiln Road in South Burlington Friday night, as crews battled a fire at a senior residential complex. South Burlington Fire Department, with assistance from the Vermont Air National Guard, Burlington, Williston, Winooski and Shelburne Fire Departments worked to extinguish the fire at the Northern Meridian Apartments, at 327 Lime Kiln Road in South Burlington. UVM and St. Mikes Rescue teams also assisted the effort. South Burlington fire said the call came in just after 10 p.m. Friday. 54 residents were forced to evacuate the building, along with those in neighboring buildings. One firefighter and one resident were taken to UVM medical Center for evaluation.South Burlington Fire Department were among those using a helicopter to spray water from above, while trying to put out the flames. Bradley Dattilio, Captain of the South Burlington Fire Department, said the efforts of the property managers helped the rescue operation run more smoothly.A reunification center has been established at the Saint Michael’s College Tarrant Center at 132 Campus Rd in Colchester.“I know they’ve relocated approximately 50 residents to local hotels,” Dattilio said. “The property managers will continue coordinating next steps as the fire marshal’s office focuses on the investigation.” The American Red Cross is assisting.This article will be updated as more information comes into our newsroom.
