Vermont State Police are looking for a driver who allegedly hit a pedestrian in Pownal before fleeing, leaving her with serious injuries.Investigators said they were notified of the crash near the intersection of U.S. Route 7 and Vermont Route 346 at 6:40 a.m. Police believe the crash happened just moments earlier, between 6:30 a.m. and 6:38 a.m.The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital in Albany for treatment, according to police. Officials said as of Thursday afternoon, the victim is still hospitalized and receiving care for life-threatening injuries.On Thursday afternoon, police said they had obtained surveillance images of two vehicles that were in the area at the time of the crash. Police are now looking to identify the drivers of those vehicles, as they believe they may have additional information about the crash.Investigators said they are looking for what they believe to be a Chevy Silverado and a Volkswagen sedan, either a Passat or a Jetta. Both vehicles are white with unknown license plates. They were both seen heading south on Route 7 and are believed to have crossed into Massachusetts. They were last seen on North Hoosac Road heading toward the town of North Adams.There is currently no description of a suspect or vehicle. Police are asking anyone who might have been in the area at the time of the crash or any residents or businesses with video surveillance to contact the Shaftsbury barracks at 802-442-5421 to help with their investigation.
