On this Memorial Day weekend, police in Pennsylvania are investigating the theft of about 100 bronze vases from veterans’ graves. “It’s going to be one of the most significant thefts that the cemetery has experienced. So, we’re taking that very seriously. It’s just not something that makes sense, really, to anyone,” Columbia Borough police officer Rebecca Blatt said. Columbia Borough is in Lancaster County, about 90 miles west of Philadelphia.Police say the theft happened between Sunday and this Friday at the military garden of the Laurel Hill Cemetery. Although they don’t have a suspect, they want the public and anyone that had something to do with the crime to hear this message. “Just stop and take a second. This is really just about respecting other people. So, we all have differences, and sometimes we don’t get along. But at the end of the day, you know, a veteran’s memorial, that shouldn’t be something that we ever take lightly,” Blatt said. The Laurel Hill Cemetery was not the only one with thefts. Two other nearby cemeteries also experienced the theft of vases. The community is coming together to make sure those veterans are honored this Memorial Day with one local business giving out flags to put in the cemeteries.
