
Police in St. Albans are looking for a driver who they said was creating loud noises with their vehicle that were mistaken for gunfire.The St. Albans Police Department said they received reports of what was believed to be gunfire near Bay Park on Tuesday from several callers.Those callers told police they saw two vehicles on Maquam Shore Road that were believed to be shooting at each other while driving.Police responded to the area to conduct an investigation, but they couldn’t find any evidence that there was any gunfire.They later located one of the drivers, who told officers that he had been “two-stepping” his vehicle, a practice that causes loud bangs from the exhaust similar to that of a car backfiring.Police are still looking for the driver of the second vehicle. Investigators said their follow-up could lead to citations or even charges for those responsible.
