
A new Amazon delivery station is coming to Northern New York after the online retailer purchased a large swath of undeveloped land in Champlain. TDC, a Plattsburgh-based nonprofit company that owns the Champlain Industrial Park, announced on Wednesday it had completed the sale of a 17.76-acre parcel of undeveloped land to Amazon for the development of a rural delivery station.The terms of the deal were not disclosed.The Champlain Industrial Park consists of more than 100 acres of land owned by TDC, according to the company’s website. It is located off Route 11 and is about two miles from Exit 42 on Interstate 87.The new delivery station will also be located just four miles from the Champlain/Lacolle border crossing.NBC5 reached out to Amazon, with a spokesperson saying that the deliver station will support “fast delivery and great service to local customers in Champlain.”The company said it plans to share more details as planning continues.Danielle King, the CEO of TDC, said the new facility will create jobs, provide tax revenue and boost the local economy.Local leaders applauded the deal, saying it is a net positive for employment and development in the North Country.NBC5 has reached out to TDC and Amazon for more information on the sale.Amazon said the facility does not have any effect on plans for a proposed 100,000-square-foot distribution facility in Essex, Vermont. That facility has been in talks for months, with some residents and local businesses opposed to allowing the massive company to gain a foothold in the community.The community is expected to weigh in again on the facility Thursday night, July 17 at another public meeting.
