
Police arrested a suspect on Wednesday in the killing of two hikers at Devil’s Den State Park in Arkansas over the weekend. James Andrew McGann, 28, of Springdale, Arkansas, was arrested in the case.He was arrested in the middle of getting a haircut at Lupita’s Beauty Salon and Barber Shop in Springdale, sister station KHBS reports.Clinton David Brink, 43, and Cristen Amanda Brink, 41, were killed on a walking trail. Their two daughters, 7 and 9, were not hurt and are safe with family members.Earlier in the week, police had released a photo showing the back of a person of interest in the case and a composite sketch of that same person.They also released the description of a vehicle: a black sedan, possibly a Mazda. It had duct tape over its license plate when it was at Devil’s Den.The FBI had joined the search efforts for the suspect. Prairie Grove is about a half-hour drive from Devil’s Den.Danikka Harrell, who has been close friends with the Brinks since 2017, expressed her grief upon hearing the news.”My heart just hurt as a parent, as a friend, thinking about what their daughters are going through,” Harrell said. “Like my heart, my mom heart hurts for them, and I just, they are such sweet people, and they’re so genuine. I’m really struggling to understand why or how this could happen to such sweet people.”Harrell described her late friends as “great people, just great down-to-earth people. They weren’t judgmental. They were very accepting of everybody.” Devil’s Den is a 2,500-acre state park near West Fork, about 140 miles (220 kilometers) northwest of Little Rock, the state capital.The park is known for its hiking trails and rock formations, and it is a short drive from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and Walmart’s Bentonville headquarters.
