
A Vermont man faces aggravated assault and robbery charges after state police say he entered the West Rutland Stewart’s Shop location and demanded cash and tobacco products.Joel Gouin, a 39-year-old transient, entered the Stewart’s on Sunday night when State Police say he showed a knife to two female employees, injured one of the workers, demanded cash and tried to take tobacco products before fleeing the scene. The workers notified the police by sounding a hold-up alarm.Troopers arrived quickly enough at the scene that they spotted Gouin running from the store. He was quickly caught and taken into custody.Police found a knife on Gouin and a silent alarm pendant, which he took from one of the employees. Gouin was sent to the Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility to be held without bail. His arraignment is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in Rutland.
