The South End Art Hop is back this weekend in Burlington for its 33rd year. What started with just one train car of artwork has grown into one of the biggest art celebrations in the South End.Burlington’s Art Hop stretches nearly two miles along Pine Street, from Maple Street to Burton.More than 125 locations are participating this year, with studios, small businesses, and historic buildings all opening to the public for the weekend. “It’s really fun to see that it’s grown to 125 locations. Small businesses and artist studios all open their doors for this three-day arts festival,” said Christy Mitchell, the executive director of South End Arts and Business Association. Safety and accessibility remain a top priority, after Eastern Equine Encephalitis, or Triple E, forced organizers to move more events indoors last year. “One of the main things that we do to help people navigate any kind of large event is really pay attention to accessibility. You can see a full map of all the locations and everything that’s accessible. ADA-accessible icons are outside of each building on the map. For spaces you can go into, along with all the parking areas,” said Mitchell. On Friday night, the road will close for a fashion show. Then on Saturday, there will be more family activities and a “kids hop.”On Sunday, the festival shifts to a slower pace, giving visitors time to browse and buy artwork. “This is also a time where artists take a lot of care and time in their spaces and open the doors up. Just to engage with artists and support their work, whether through purchasing pieces or any kind of engagement you can get them,” she added. With hundreds of pieces on display, food trucks lining the street, and live music all weekend long, organizers say this year’s Art Hop was made for everyone to enjoy. All events are free to attend, except for Friday night’s fashion show.
