Beekmantown high school boys’ and girls’ soccer teamed up for a cause outside of the final score in their latest games on the pitch. The Eagles organized another edition of their Breast Cancer Awareness games. The two teams hosted home games against Northeastern Clinton Central on the same day to raise money for breast cancer treatment and support to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Monday, Oct. 1. “Especially for these games, there is a bigger picture behind them,” said Beekmantown junior girls’ soccer player Carly Hagadorn. “You not only get to play for your title or your rank, but for the cause itself.” It’s a cause that is special to Hagadorn and her twin sister, Olivia, whose grandmother and mom were both diagnosed with breast cancer. It motivated both sisters and their teammates, alongside the boys’ soccer team, to influence others to attend the game and donate money in the fight against breast cancer. “I know it affects like many people in our area,” Olivia Hagadorn said. “It means a lot to us … we all want to give it our all for everyone here.” The two teams combined to raise approximately $1,500. The money will be split evenly between two local breast cancer support groups in the Clinton County, NY, area. The first is the Champlain Valley Physicians’ Hospital’s Fitzpatrick Cancer Center. The other is the Northern New York State’s chapter of the Guardians of the Ribbon. The Eagles also came away with two wins on the same day on their home turf. Olivia Hagadorn tallied a hat trick with three goals, while her sister Carly tallied an assist and a goal of her own for a 4-1 win over NCCS in the girls’ soccer game. Brynn Hite scored the Cougars’ lone goal on a penalty kick in the first half. The boys picked up a 2-0 shutout victory against NCCS after the girls’ game. Dylan Brown scored on a direct kick in the first half, while Evan Latinville scored on a penalty kick in the second half.
