
Several members of the Mount Anthony Union High School wrestling team are in the hospital after a head-on crash in Monkton on Saturday evening.According to Vermont State Police, the crash happened on Bristol Road just after 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.Police say a 2025 GMC Yukon XL with three passengers was traveling northbound when the driver lost control on the snowy roads and crossed into the other lane. The GMC collided head-on with a 2017 Toyota Tacoma, which was carrying three student members of the team.The driver and passengers in the GMC sustained minor injuries.One passenger and the driver in the Tacoma have moderate injuries and two passengers have serious injuries. VSP did not release any names of the underage passengers, but all of the victims are from Bennington. The driver is a 53-year-old man who police said was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.NBC5 received the following statement from the Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union and Mt. Anthony Union High School:”Members of the Mt. Anthony Union High School wrestling team were involved in a motor vehicle accident, Saturday, January 17. The accident resulted in several student athletes and a coach being transported to a nearby emergency medical center. “Please know that we are unable to release more information at this time, but that we ask for our Mt. Anthony Patriots to stay in your thoughts during this difficult time.”The team was scheduled to have a match against Danbury today, but it was cancelled.The investigation is ongoing. NBC5 has reached out to police to learn more.
