Around 100 people turned out to donate blood in Essex on Saturday to remember Addi Carroll, a young girl who died of a rare disease.Big Beautiful Life, the organization behind the drive, started it while Addi was still alive. It now honors her memory. People could also make donations to Aunt Dot’s food shelf and learn more about the Essex Fire Department. There was also an arts and crafts table. Addi had several transfusions and platelets. Her mom, Tammy, said they know firsthand how blood donations help those in need.”We all saw for real in front of our eyes how blood could breathe life back into somebody we loved and we really wanted to pay that forward and make sure that other families had that too,” Tammy said. “Having the community come together is beautiful. A lot of people who come knew Addi, and it’s a good time for us to come together and remember.”Big Beautiful Life’s largest fundraiser is June 14 at Essex Middle School. It’s a run, walk and roll.
