
A Colchester man will spend the next 20 years in prison after an armed robbery led to a rival drug dealer’s death in 2021.Federal prosecutors said Dominique Troupe, 39, was convicted in May 2024 for his role in running a drug dealing operation and for the subsequent death of Elijah Oliver, 22, of Massachusetts. A judge ordered him to serve 240 months in prison followed by four years of supervised release.Troupe, who was a prolific distributor of cocaine base in the area, ordered associates Eric Raymond and another man to rob the rival dealer and stop activity on his turf. He then supplied Raymond with a gun and drove the two men to and from the robbery.Oliver was shot twice during the attempted robbery and died.Following Oliver’s death, Troupe left Vermont for several months before returning to restart his illegal drug operation. He was arrested in September 2022 with a large amount of cocaine in his possession, prosecutors said.After a six-day trial, a jury found Troup guilty of several charges including conspiracy to distribute cocaine, aiding and abetting the use of a firearm in a drug trafficking offense, and conspiracy to commit armed robbery, among others.Eric Raymond and another man, Jesse Sweet, were previously sentenced to serve 12 and six years, respectively, for coming up with the idea to rob Oliver.
