Quiz: This week in politics
Iran’s foreign minister called these talks some of the country’s most intense and longest rounds of negotiations, adding that they have clearly laid out their position. Going into them, President Donald Trump also drew *** very hard line, warning in *** State of the Union address this week he will use military force if Iran does not back down from building its nuclear program. My preference is to solve this problem through diplomacy. But one thing is certain, I will never allow the world’s number one sponsor of terror, which they are by far, to have *** nuclear weapon. Can’t let that happen. The president has sent US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner, among others pictured here, to negotiate. The group is meeting with Oman’s Foreign Minister, acting as mediator for the indirect talks with Iran. If negotiations fail, the US says it may strike and has reinforced the region with several military assets. The Pentagon has deployed its largest fleet of warships and aircraft to the region in decades. Iran says it’s ready to make *** deal solely on its nuclear program, but the US is demanding more, including *** complete stop to Iran’s uranium enrichment, ballistic. Missile system and its support for militant groups across the Middle East. Beyond just *** nuclear program, they possess these conventional weapons that are solely designed to attack America and attack Americans if they so choose to do so. These things have to be addressed. More technical negotiations are set to happen in Vienna next week. Reporting at the White House, I’m Amy Liu.
