
The Bolton Central boys’ basketball squad is heading to the state final four. The Eagles defeated the Heuvelton Bulldogs, 70-65, in Saturday’s Class D regional championship. The Bulldogs would overcome a ten-point deficit after halftime, and in the fourth quarter, Colt McAllister drilled a huge 3-pointer from the corner to bring Heuvelton within 5.On the other end, Bolton Central’s Liam Foy would get a reverse layup to extend the Eagles’ lead, 66-59. Moments later, McAllister connected on another three-pointer from the other corner to bring the Bulldogs within four. After a timeout, they would hit a third 3-pointer within three minutes to bring Bolton’s lead down to one. With a little over a minute left, Bolton’s Jaxson Egloff would splash home a fadeaway step-back with two defenders over him to put the Eagles up, 68-65. Heuvelton would fail to score another bucket as the Eagles held on to advance to the Class D state semifinal. “I practice those every day in practice. Right as it left my hand, I felt it was going in. I bobbled a little bit, but once I got that clean release, it was going in,” Egloff said on his late shot. “It’s amazing. Just all the fans here cheering so loud for us, it’s just amazing. Who would’ve thought we’d be here?” he added. The Eagles are set to face Bridgehampton next Saturday, March 21, at Visions Memorial Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 11:45 a.m.
