Vermont women’s basketball’s most decorated head coach in program history announced she is leaving for a new head coaching position. Alisa Kresge revealed on Saturday, April 11 that she will become the next head coach at the University of Richmond. “On behalf of the Athletic Department and the entire UVM community, I want to thank Alisa for her exceptional leadership of our women’s basketball program and for everything that she has contributed to Catamount Country over these past eight years,” said UVM athletic director Jeff Schulman in a statement released by UVM. “Under her guidance, the program has reestablished itself as a mid-major power with a foundation of excellence centered around outstanding student-athletes whose character, leadership and talent embody the very best of college athletics on and off the court,” he added. Kresge wraps up her Vermont tenure as the winningest coach in program history. Her 145-89 overall mark helped lead the Catamounts to three NCAA tournament appearances in the past four seasons, and a fab four appearance in the 2024 Women’s National Invitational Tournament. Kresge was also a two-time America East coach of the year winner in 2023 and 2026, but she credits all her accolades to the players she was able to lead from the sidelines. “To our players — it has been an absolute pleasure coaching you. You are our why,” said Kresge in the same statement provided by UVM. “Thank you for being an example to so many and a constant source of pride. To your loved ones — thank you for trusting us to be part of your daughters’ journeys. We’ve cherished every moment.” Kresge joins a Richmond squad who finished with a 26-8 overall record and earned an at-large bid as a No. 11 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Spiders latest appearance marked their third straight NCAA tournament bid and their sixth in program history. Kresge’s leave for Richmond also makes her the second head coach from UVM in the past four months to leave for a different opportunity. Former UVM men’s soccer head coach Rob Dow left Vermont to join the Penn State men’s soccer program as its next head coach back in December of 2025. Schulman shared that the search for the next head coach is currently underway for the women’s basketball team.
