The University of Vermont women’s lacrosse team remains in the top three in the America East after its latest win. Vermont took down Binghamton University for the first time since 2022 in women’s lacrosse after a 13-8 win at Virtue Field on Saturday, April 11. Binghamton, which was a half-game back from Vermont in the America East standings, now stands 1.5 games back after UVM’s latest win. “It feels really rewarding to win against a team that we haven’t won against the whole time I’ve been at UVM,” said Vermont junior attacker Karina Sethi. “It was a great day, and really it was just the week of prep ahead.” Sethi paced the Catamounts on offense with a dominant first half of play. She scored five of Vermont’s seven first-half goals, which marked a career-high single-game outing for the junior attacker. “The defense was showing us the alley down on the elbows, and that’s what I and the rest of the team, we’re looking to attack,” Sethi said. “I think we were more than ready for this game and to beat them. We had a great mindset going into this week as well, so all around an amazing team win.”Lydia Doraz helped close things out for Vermont in the second half, dishing out multiple assists and scoring two of the final three goals of the game for the Catamounts. She finished her day scoring two goals and a team-high five assists. Jane Trauger and Ali Cabot also chipped in with two goals apiece. Vermont now is tied for second place in the conference with Bryant University, with a 3-1 record. UVM head coach Sarah Dalton Graddock says that this win was key for Vermont to continue rising in the conference standings and earn a bid to the conference playoffs. “We talked about controlling our own destiny,” Dalton Graddock said. “Our conference is cutthroat. Four out of seven teams go to the tournament … if you can win and control your destiny, it’s a lot of weight off your shoulders.”Vermont has the top seed in the America East, Albany, next at Virtue Field on Saturday, April 18. Gametime is set for 12 p.m. in Burlington.
