Damaging wind gusts expected Monday

LOT MORE MAPLE. IN SHELBURNE, KRYSTIN RAE, NBC 5 NEWS (áááWALLááá) FULL WEATHER: Low pressure will lift to our north and west this evening and overnight. Steady rain will transition to mountain showers, eventually turning over to snow tonight. Strong west to northwest wind gusts will develop overnight and into Monday, especially along eastern slopes of the higher terrain, with the potential to produce a few power outages. Drier weather resumes by Monday afternoon with near to below normal temperatures. The next weather system will approach the region later Wednesday into Thursday. && .NEAR TERM /THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/… As of 940 PM EDT Sunday…A frontal boundary is currently working itús way eastward through VT, with strong southerl flow to the east and a transition to westerly flow behind the boundary. Did see a weak convective line of showers along the boundary earlier this afternoon with some gusty winds, but the organized line has since dissipated into just some loosely organized showers this evening. New York Mesonet shows gusty westerly winds are picking over much of northern NY as the atmosphere destabilizes behind the frontal boundary/rain showers. Currently seeing gusts anywhere between 20 and 40 mph over northern NY, which are expected to further intensify overnight as well as spread eastward into VT. This is all well covered in the forecast with a Wind Advisory starting for much of the area at 11 PM tonight. Previous Discussion…Low pressure is currently lifting along just west of the St Lawrence Valley, with its associated robust 850mb jet and swath of rain crossing the North Country. As the low shifts east, the jet and bulk of the rain will do the same, and weúll see a brief break in the precipitation. However, weúll get another shot of steadier rain with the passage of systemús cold front. Thereús a fine convective line on the leading edge with widespread showers trailing behind. Gusts produced by this convection have not been impressive; in fact, the winds ahead of it have been stronger than with the convection itself. The line should go through our area roughly 5 pm to 9 pm this evening, and may produce some briefly moderate rainfall as it does so. Rainfall amounts so far with this event have been modest, largely owing to shadowing from the strong southerly jet. Eastern slopes in the southern Greens and up into the Adirondacks have seen a third of an inch or so, while elsewhere amounts have been less than a quarter of an inch. Therefore, donút anticipate any flooding concerns. Colder air spills in behind the front this evening with the upper
