A Middlebury man will face numerous charges after a violent series of events unfolded across Chittenden County Sunday evening.The Colchester Police Department said it all started at around 6:45 p.m. when a Jeep pulled up next to another car on Route 15 along the Colchester-Essex town line.Police said Ben Webb, 38, got out of the Jeep and demanded a debit card from the stopped driver next to him.Webb reportedly pulled out a crossbow and the victim drove off.Moments later, police said they got a report of a robbery just down the road at Cumberland Farms. They said the Jeep had also been involved in a hit-and-run crash on Route 15 in Winooski.At around 7:15 p.m., officers said witnesses told them the Jeep was missing a tire and Webb was driving erratically on Route 7 in Colchester.They said Webb pointed the same crossbow at those witnesses after they followed him to the area of Forman Drive.Police said an officer showed up shortly afterward and ordered Webb to drop the crossbow, pointing a weapon at the suspect.Webb did not comply, according to police. They said he got back into the Jeep and drove into two Colchester Police Department cruisers.Officers followed Webb as he drove off in the direction of Essex.They said Webb eventually slammed into an Essex Police Department cruiser on Morse Drive.Police arrested Webb and he was taken to the hospital.Two Essex police officers were also taken to the hospital for minor injuries.Webb is expected to face multiple aggravated assault and robbery charges.
