In the month of October, in Windham County, there was a string of six fires, all suspicious in nature. They have Vermont State Police fire investigators looking for tips on who may have set them and if they were connected.Rod’s Towing and Repair, a family-owned business, was set on fire on Oct. 9. Damage estimates have been climbing and are in excess of a million dollars. Leaving more than a dozen people without work. Most of the building has to be demolished before this business can rebuild.Julie Winchester owns the shop with her husband Greg. “I wish I could say it has gotten easier, I think, what others who have gone before us said,” Winchester said. “This is probably the most devastating phase of it. watching a family business of 54 years have to be completely demolished.”It’s been almost a month since the fire, but the family has been putting in a lot of work to restore their business.“Very emotional, as far as the emotional rollercoaster of you know seeing the devastation that has occurred,” Winchester said. Vermont State Police said other fires were set to abandoned or empty structures or items. The closest fire to Rod’s was a mobile home, reduced to just ashes.In Marlboro, a motel was allegedly also an arson. The structure from the front appears okay, but the vehicle parked in the driveway is charred.The most recent fire set last week was an unoccupied campsite cabin on a secluded road, also in Marlboro. Police say this was also due to human involvement.All of the fires are under investigation, with no arrests made, police are asking for you to call in with any tips you may have. At Rod’s, they hope this spree does not continue.“And they’ve set all these other fires, is someone going to end up being killed in this,” Winchester said.Vermont State Police is offering a $5000 reward for any information about the fires that lead to an arrest.
