The small town of Santa Claus, Indiana, has just as much holiday cheer as you might think. It’s basically Christmas all year long in the town of about 2,500 people, which is about 2.5 hours from Cincinnati, Ohio. But during the holiday season, the town’s festive spirit is second only to the North Pole. When you build a town around the Christmas spirit, there’s bound to be plenty to do around the holidays. This year’s celebrations are packed with parades, fireworks, shopping, visits with Santa, and yes, even live reindeer. The festivities kick off Thanksgiving weekend with annual favorites like the Live Reindeer Exhibit at Santa’s TOYS and the Santa Claus Land of Lights. Dec. 2 marks the official beginning of the Santa Claus Christmas Celebration, spanning the first three weekends of December. And on Dec. 3, Christmas comes to Rockport for a full day of holiday activities.Don’t know what any of that means? Not to worry — Here is a breakdown of each of the festivities and what’s included. While in the town, explore the grounds at the Santa Claus Museum & Village and pose for a family photo in front of the 22-foot-tall Santa statue. Visitors can also treat themselves to homemade confections from the historic Santa’s Candy Castle. You can also share your holiday spirit through the mail. Hand-cancel holiday mail with the one-and-only Santa Claus Postmark from the only post office with the Santa Claus name.Visitors can also stop and watch Santa’s Giant LED Tree of Lights perform a choreographed light show in Kringle Place Shopping Center. Then, drive through the Santa Claus Land of Lights at Lake Rudolph Campground & RV Resort to discover the magical story of Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer. For more information and for planning sources, click here.
