However, the University of Vermont women’s basketball team is still looking for a new beginning after falling to UMBC 58-57 at Patrick Gym on Sunday.It’s the second consecutive loss for the Catamounts, falling to 0-2 to open up America East play. The Golden Retrievers got off to a hot start, opening up the first quarter on a 12-2 run, thanks to a pair of threes from K.K. White. That seemed to be the wake-up call the Catamounts needed, storming back to take a 27-23 by halftime. But UMBC wouldn’t be put down without a fight, intensifying their perimeter defense, specifically on three-point specialist Cat Gilwee, who shot just 1-4 after halftime.With the loss, the Cats start 0-2 in conference for the first time since 2019-2020 and will look to reboot the new year at Bryant on Wednesday.
