Donna Kelce discusses her Super Bowl sons’ bond and lifelong competitiveness
All the moms that are out there that have spent hours, multitude amounts of hours through the year. So you know, taking their kids back and forth to camp and sports and music lessons and everything else. I think they can relate. Did you ever think that it would get this big? No, no, no, no. I mean they’re the celebrities. I’m just *** mom, you know, I’m not *** celebrity, I didn’t sign up for this, you know, So I think that’s what people love so much about you because they see their best friend or their mom or their aunt. Yeah, it’s kind of cool. It really is and I think everybody can relate. Um I’m hoping that they’re living vicariously through the calcium family, so it’s kind of fun. Um But yeah, I just, I feel *** little silly at times, but then I think, you know, this is something they wanna know, they wanna understand the family, they want to hear some um information to find out if there if they can relate to us and they can find similarities in their family, like our family, then it’s worth it. I guess. It’s just surreal. Um I don’t really know if it’s um I don’t feel like I’m the most popular mom, but it’s kind of fun to hear from people I haven’t heard from for *** while, especially from high school and and some of my worker friends that I haven’t seen in *** couple of years because I’ve been retired and so it’s just getting to reconnect with so many of my friends that I’ve lost touch with. What did you do? It was *** banker, commercial banker. So we built *** commercial real estate for Suntrust, truest bank. So *** little bit for Key bank in Cleveland. I know the NFL was clear about who they had selected for the coin toss, but I think that that shows the level of you have behind you. There’s like seven different petitions that changed. There’s like 400,000 people who have signed on time out of their life. I know that’s amazing. It really is. It’s just um, you know, there are *** lot of legends that have played this game. There are *** lot of individuals that have put their blood, sweat and tears um on the field for this country. And I just feel that it’s much more deserving to pay tribute to Pat Tillman. And uh, so you know, as much as I might want to do it or my kids would want me to do it, it’s just not the right time. Pat Tillman was *** wonderful NFL player for the Arizona cardinals and I understand that they want to pay tribute to them and it’s important for our fallen soldiers. Others have booked siblings without rivalry. I don’t know if you’ve heard of it, you have two siblings, they definitely have some rivalry take us through kind of, what’s that been like? It sounds like it’s been *** long going, oh yes, they have always been at each other. Travis is more so just to get his brother’s attention and to play with and to do things with him, you know, to make sure that they could have fun, but they’ve always competed with each other. I think that’s why they play at the highest level now is because they had two extremely talented athletes that they were playing against every single day. And so they had the best competition right there at home. And even though they may not have played at the same teams when they were in elementary school or middle school, because Jason is two years older, um they did compete and they first person to the car, first person up the stairs into the bed, you know, first person to the dinner table. It was always *** competition. Always, always, it just was. And for you, what does this moment mean to you? I mean, maybe you get this again, maybe this is once in *** lifetime. We all from the outside looking in just are kind of overwhelmed with like the emotion of the moment for you. It’s very, very special just that it could happen. Um but then again, there were 400 sets of brothers in the NFL over time and it’s surprising that it didn’t happen once before, at least. I know there’s been brothers that have been on the same team and they’ve played against each other. I mean on the same team, they played with each other in the Super Bowl, but they’ve never, um, there’s never been brothers that have played in the Super Bowl against each other. So I think that’s what the difference is here, that the odds of that happening are so astronomical that it’s really amazing that it could happen. But I’m surprised it hasn’t happened before now and I think it will happen again soon. You didn’t orchestrate this from 30 years ago when they know the best thing I did was, I listened to them, you know, found out what they love to do because whatever your child loves to do, whether it’s music writing, math, whatever they love to do, that’s what you should try to support the math because that is what they’re going to be good at. And instead of trying to steer them into *** certain sport or what have you, it’s better to just learn from them and they’ll dictate what they want to do basically. Um, you know, the, um, I am rooting for the offense, but um, you know, obviously I want each boy to do the best that they can put it all out on the field so that they have no regrets that they felt like they didn’t measure up.
