A high school cheerleader in Texas, who was shot earlier this month after one of her teammates mistakenly got into the wrong car in a parking lot, posted an update on her Instagram account on Friday to say she is recovering and gave an essential message to all her supporters.”Thank you for everyone who has prayed for me. It’s been a really hard two weeks but I’m working to get better daily,” Payton Washington said in the post, which also showed a photo of her in a hospital bed.”Take some time to tell everyone you love them. Things in your life can change so quickly and you don’t want to lose an opportunity to let them know how you feel.”Washington and her teammate Heather Roth were both shot earlier this month in a grocery store parking lot. Washington, Roth and two others had carpooled to the Houston-area competitive cheer team Woodlands Elite Co. for practice earlier in the day. That evening, the cheerleaders returned to the parking lot and parted ways to drive home.Roth told KTRK-TV that she mistakenly opened the car door of Pedro Tello Rodriguez Jr., which she thought was hers. Next, Roth said she immediately panicked after she saw Rodriguez Jr. sitting in the car’s passenger seat, thinking he had broken into her vehicle. Then, she returned to her friend’s car, with Rodriguez following behind.According to police, Roth rolled down the window to apologize to Rodriguez, at which point he allegedly pulled out his gun and started shooting inside the car, hitting both Roth and Washington. A bullet grazed Roth, while Washington was shot in the leg and the back and had to be airlifted to the hospital. Both teammates are recovering from their injuries, and Rodriguez Jr. has been charged with a third-degree felony for the shooting.
