A Vermont man who was arrested following a shooting Thursday afternoon in Montgomery pleaded not guilty to aggravated assault and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon during a court appearance on Friday.Robert Morrell, 77, a resident of Highland Springs Road, is accused of shooting his neighbor, 54-year-old Kevin Temple, who also lives on Highland Springs Road.The charges each carry a sentence of up to 15 years in prison or a fine of up to $10,000.Temple is currently at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, where he is undergoing treatment for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.Investigators have determined the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute about the maintenance of the private road where both men lived. During an argument, police said Morrell grabbed a gun and shot his neighbor one time in the torso. Morrell stayed on scene and was taken into custody by police following an investigation of the incident.Morrell was arraigned Friday afternoon in St. Albans.
