One of the biggest achievements for Mt. Mansfield Union’s football program was taking home a division one championship in 2018 on the back of a historic season. The team adopted the phrase “Burn the Boat” to symbolize its warrior mentality, and just five years later, it’s doing the same.Head coach Nick Michaud brought the mantra back to life for 2023 to give the team an extra boost. The Cougars are coming off a disappointing 2-6 finish in 2022, but there’s growing optimism amongst the upperclassman that they can improve upon the record.”I think a lot of the football community sees us as weak,” said senior linebacker Philip Gulizio. “I think we’re mean, we’re dogs, and we go out and throw everything we can on the field.”The Cougars boast a talented group of freshman receivers that Michaud believes can break open games if given the opportunity.
