Man airlifted after being struck by bus in Watertown

WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – Watertown police say a 76-year-old man was walking on State Street in the city when he was hit by a bus.

They say the man was airlifted to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, where he was listed in stable condition.

“He has injuries to his leg and and they do appear to be serious,” Detective Sgt. Joseph Giaquinto said Thursday.

The crash happened near Winthrop Street around 5:30 p.m.

Police say the Birnie Bus Service transport bus left the scene after the man was hit. Jefferson County dispatchers say it was stopped in Carthage later that evening.

Giaquinto said in a release Friday morning that no charges had been filed and the investigation is continuing.

Helping Watertown police at scene were the city fire department, Guilfoyle Ambulance, state police, and the Carthage Police Department.
