Saturday Sports: Lisbon Girls’ Soccer season wraps up in fall to Fillmore

HOMER, New York (WWNY) – The Lisbon Girls’ Soccer Team was looking to punch their ticket to the Girls’ State Class D Soccer Championship Saturday in Homer, where they faced Fillmore in the state semifinals.

Fillmore got on the board first when Hope Russell put a head on the corner kick and tickles twine: 1-0 Fillmore.

Five minutes later, the Eagles added to their lead when Grace Russell sticks home the corner kick: 2-0 Fillmore.

Off the cross, Miley Miller dented the back of the net to put Fillmore up 3-0 at the half.

In the 2nd half, Lisbon cuts into the Fillmore lead when Leah Warren rips yarn on the penalty kick: 3-1 Fillmore.

But Fillmore adds another goal and ends Lisbon’s season with a 4-1 win.

At the state cross country championships at Vernon Verona Sherrill, South Lewis senior Brynn Bernard won her 3rd straight State Class D Individual Title with a time of 18 minutes 56 seconds, leading the Falcons to the State Class D Team Title.

A strong showing on the boys’ side for South Lewis as well as Collin Stafford finished 3rd in Class D with a time of 16 minutes 22.5 seconds and team mate Conner Zehr placed 7th. The South Lewis Boys Cross Country Team finished 2nd in the state in Class D.

In women’s college hockey, St. Lawrence was hosting Clarkson.

In the first period, Dominique Petrie rolls to the outside and crosses the puck over to Darcie Lappan who chips it in: 1-0 Clarkson.

Seven minutes later, Lappan fires a shot from the left circle and Sena Catteral redirects the puck for the goal: 2-0 Golden Knights.

In the third period, it was Alexie Guay with a shot saved by Emma Nordstrom.

A few moments later, Lappan breaks away at mid-ice for the one on one where Nordstrom snatched the puck out of the air for the save.

In the closing seconds of the game, Petrie wraps the puck around and into the net to add to the lead.

Clarkson blanks St. Lawrence 3-0.

In Men’s ECAC Hockey from Cheel Arena, the Clarkson Golden Knights hosted Union.

The game was scoreless in the 2nd when Erik Bargholtz beats the goalie 5 hole, putting Clarkson on top 1-0.

Less than a minute later, the Golden Knights add to their lead when George Grannis sticks home the rebound: 2-0 Clarkson.

Over 2 minutes later, Eric Ciccolini’s blast splits the pipes: 3-0 Clarkson.

Clarkson goes on to beat Union 4-1.

Syracuse took on Pittsburgh at Yankee Stadium.

In the 3rd quarter, Syracuse was down 13-7 when Garrett Shrader calls his own number and goes 21 yards for the touchdown to put the Orange up 14-13.

Later in the 3rd, Jayden Bellamy comes up with the pick and takes it 23 yards to the house: 21-13 Syracuse.

In the 4th quarter, Dan Villari takes the snap and goes up the middle 27 yards for the touchdown.

Syracuse snaps a 5 game skid, beating Pittsburgh 28-13.
