WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – A winter storm warning was to go into effect Monday afternoon for Lewis and Jefferson counties.
It’s scheduled to start at 4 p.m. Monday and last through 7 a.m. on Wednesday.
Lake effect snow is expected over the usual suspect areas on the Tug Hill Plateau. A band of heavy snow could dump from 1 to 2 feet in places where snowfall is most persistent. Local amounts could reach 30 inches.
Wind gusts up to 35 miles per hour could cause areas of blowing and drifting snow, making driving difficult to impossible.
The heaviest snowfalls are expected Monday night through Tuesday and could be more than 3 inches an hour in places where the snow bands are heaviest.
Most of the snow is expected to stay south of Watertown.
Places outside the lake effect bands could get very little to no snow.
