Hundreds of people came together on Sunday to celebrate the life of one young Vermont girl. Addi Carroll was a staple in the Essex, VT community. She was an honorary chief at the Essex Fire Department. Her friends and family described her as irreplaceable, vibrant, funny and an inspiration. “Just the most special person you’ll ever meet,” Addi’s best friend, Brynn Lamothe said. Addi died on July 10, 2022 after battling a rare disease. Though they wish she were right alongside them, friends, family and her community honored Addi’s legacy at the annual Big Beautiful Life 5K.Addi’s parents Ian and Tammy started the Big Beautiful Life nonprofit to raise money for the organizations that have supported their family and for families with kids who, like Addi, are battling rare illnesses. “So Big Beautiful Life is the way that we take care of her now that we pay forward everything our community did to help us thrive,” Tammy Carroll said. On Sunday, even with rain showers overhead for some of the event, people walked, ran and rolled in Addi’s honor. “And true to form it stopped raining right at the start of the race,” said Ian Carroll. The race commenced at the sound of a siren coming from Engine 2, the fire truck dedicated to Addi. “She is still watching over us. She’s part of, always will be part of the Essex fire family,” said Stephen Trenholm, assistant fire chief at the Essex dept.
