‘Disorderly employee’ threatened coworkers with knife at NFL stadium
ON SECURITY MEASURES AND HOW TO STAY SAFE. BE VIGILANT. THAT’S THE ADVICE FROM FORMER LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS ON HOW TO STAY SAFE DURING EVENTS THAT DRAW BIG CROWDS, LIKE THIS WEEKEND’S STEELERS GAME AT ACRISURE STADIUM. THE DANGER AREA MANY TIMES WHEN YOU’RE LEAVING BECAUSE YOU’RE RELAXED NOW, YOU’RE NOT PAYING ATTENTION. EVERYTHING’S FINE. THEY WANT HOPEFULLY, AND YOU’RE CHEERING, BUT YOU STILL GOT TO WATCH. FRANK MONACO USED TO WORK FOR PENNSYLVANIA STATE POLICE, HE SAYS, ESPECIALLY IN LIGHT OF THE RECENT ATTACK IN NEW ORLEANS THAT LEFT MORE THAN A DOZEN PEOPLE DEAD. IT’S IMPORTANT TO HAVE AN EXIT STRATEGY TO GET AWAY FROM DANGER QUICKLY. CAN I GET OUT OF HERE? SOMETHING HAPPENS. WHICH WAY DO WE GO IF I CAN’T GET OUT OF. THERE IS A PLACE WE CAN HIDE. AND IS THERE SOMETHING I CAN TAKE? COVER? THEY HAVE THOSE. THOSE CONCRETE PILLARS QUITE A BIT AROUND THE STADIUM, THERE TO KEEP CARS AND PERSON TO GET DOWN BEHIND THAT. FIND A WALL THAT YOU CAN GET, THAT YOU CAN HIT THE GROUND, LOOK FOR SOMETHING LIKE THAT, THAT YOU CAN TAKE COVER. ASSISTANT PROFESSOR AT LA ROCHE UNIVERSITY, MICHAEL MCEWEN, USED TO WORK FOR THE FBI. HE AGREES. PAY ATTENTION TO THE SLIGHTEST THINGS AND TELL LAW ENFORCEMENT IF YOU SEE THE SAME CAR GOING AROUND IN CIRCLES. AND IT’S NOT JUST LOOKING FOR A PARKING SPOT. COULD IT BE A PRECURSOR THAT IT’S LOOKING FOR? AND UNFORTUNATELY, AN OPPORTUNITY TO ACT ON IT IN A BAD WAY? AND ALSO, IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING. THERE’S A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT WAYS YOU CAN CONTACT LAW ENFORCEMENT AND LET THEM KNOW. HE SAYS BACK IN 2018, THERE WAS A MAN FROM TEXAS WHO MADE A THREAT AGAINST THE STEELERS. THAT MAN ENDED UP SPENDING 18 MONTHS IN PRISON, ESPECIALLY IN THIS HEIGHTENED AWARENESS STATE WITH THINGS GOING ON IN NEW ORLEANS, LAS VEGAS. THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT A TIME TO HAVE A PRACTICAL JOKE OR WHAT YOU MAY THINK IS FUNNY. AND AGAIN, THE VIGILANCE OF SOMEBODY SEEING SOMETHING AND THEN SAYING SOMETHING WILL HELP THWART THESE ACTIVITIES, HOPEFULLY IN THE FUTURE. HE SAYS THERE ARE ADVANCED SECURITY MEASURES AT THE STADIUM, LIKE METAL DETECTORS THAT USE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, AND THAT ALLOWS PEOPLE TO GO THROUGH FASTER, BUT ALSO MAY ALLOW THEM TO SEARCH FOR A LITTLE BIT MORE. AS A PERSON COMING INTO THE FACILITY. AGAIN, THE STEELERS GAME IS THIS SATURDAY AGAINST THE BENGALS. RE
