Three people were killed in a small plane crash in Harrietstown on Monday evening, according to a report from the Federal Aviation Administration. A report released on Tuesday shows that a twin-engine 1976 Piper Aerostar 601P crashed in a wooded area near Hearf’s Way and State Route 186. New York State Police said the plane took off from Adirondack Regional Airport at 10:36 p.m. and crashed shortly after.The pilot and both passengers on board the plane were killed in the crash and ensuing fire, the FAA said.On Wednesday, New York State Police identified the pilot as Gabriele Jasper, 70, 0f Toms River, New Jersey. The passengers were identified as Gabriella M. Hillgrube, 33, of Forked River, New Jersey and a minor. The report says the crash was an accident. The circumstances of the crash are still under investigation. The National Transportation Safety Board has responded to the scene and is investigating the cause of the crash.An NBC5 viewer in nearby Lake Clear captured audio of the crash on her surveillance camera. Wells said she hears planes in the area all the time, but this time she knew right away that something was wrong.”We both flew out of bed and ran outside. I could hear some bangs and loud popping,” Wells said. “It was scary. It was loud. We have been sad and out of sorts ever since.” Adirondack Rail Trail closes following crash The New York Department of Environmental Conservation said a section of the Adirondack Rail Trail in Lake Clear was closed on Tuesday following the crash. The DEC posted a map to its Facebook page on Tuesday showing that a portion of the rail trail is closed between NY186 and McMaster Road “to assist agencies investigating a small plane crash” that happened on Monday.Our crew on the scene did see a New York State Police cruiser near the entrance to the rail trail.Motorists are being asked to avoid the area until further notice.
