UVM Women’s Basketball gets back to .500 by taking down New Hampshire
Cats make 10 threes en-route to largest conference win of the season
After the past two nail-biter finishes, Catamount fans finally let out a sigh of relief, after the Women’s basketball team comfortably defeated the University of New Hampshire Wild Cats 72-55 on Saturday afternoon. The Cats made it rain from beyond the arch, cashing in on 10 of their 24 attempts. UVM head coach Alisa Kresge wasn’t surprised that her team shot so well from deep, but was proud of how her squad adjusted to the Wildcats’ game plan.”Yeah I think their game plan was to take away Emma and Anna’s drives, and credit to them, they did that for the most part,” Kresge said after the game. “So to have shooters around them to open up the floor, they’re probably playing percentages, thinking we’re not gonna shoot the same way the whole game, fortunately, we shoot pretty well from three.”Sophomore guard Cat Gilwee was a big part of the teams shooting success, knocking down four threes of her own. Gilwee believes the team has turned a corner, playing more like their 8-4 out-of-conference record.”I’m excited that we’re starting to play more confident and back to our old self,” Gilwee said. “Like I was talking about with the non-conference, we played like we didn’t care who we were playing against, we just going out there playing hard and that’s what we have to get back to.”Cats are off the rest of the weekend, returning to the hardwood on Wednesday against UMass Lowell for the second and final morning tip-off of the season, 11 am start from Patrick Gym.
