Lewis County DA race tightens up

LEWIS COUNTY, New York (WWNY) – Incumbent District Attorney (D) Leanne Moser trails challenger (R) Jeffery Tompkins by 49 votes after more votes were counted Wednesday morning.

The lead for Tompkins Tuesday night was 65 votes.

As of Wednesday morning, there are still 29 affidavits and 105 outstanding absentee ballots.

Here’s our Tuesday night reporting on the race:

Lewis County’s district attorney has apparently been voted out of office.

Incumbent Democrat Leanne Moser was challenged by Republican Jeffery Tompkins.

With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Tompkins leads Moser with a vote of 2,972 to 2,907.

There are 65 votes separating them.

Moser served 16 years as D.A.

She was running for her fifth 4-year term.

Thompkins has served as Lewis County’s conflict defender for the last five years.

An attorney with the McClusky Law Firm, Tompkins currently lives in Oneida County.

He said in March that he would move to Lewis County if elected as D.A.
