Shelburne Museum welcomed visitors back on Saturday for its free Community Day celebration to kick off the new season. It brought a line of people waiting for the doors to open, coming out to explore the museum grounds, galleries, and historic buildings. “It’s really nice to be here, even when it’s crowded. Just because it’s so vast. They the big boat and they just got these huge grounds between all the museum sections,” said Dylan Shields, a Waterbury resident. The museum has activities, tours and new exhibits. Organizers said the day gives families easy access to all the unique experiences they’ll find on the grounds. “That’s the kind of thing we hear all day long, that this is a multi-generational experience. And people have been doing this for decades. It’s a wonderful moment to get the whole family together and come to Shelburne Museum,” said Tom Denenberg, the director at Shelburne Museum. Grandparents, parents, and kids who came all shared that excitement, exploring the museum together. “I appreciate the museum allowing this to happen for us all. It’s a good community thing to do for everybody,” said Jim Calder, a Shelburne resident. While visitors got a look at the exhibits they may have not seen before. “We went into the art exhibit and checked out some of the pieces that I guess haven’t been out in a few years, so that was really cool to see,” said Alyssa Dorman, a Williston resident. And for some of the youngest visitors, it was all about the iconic steamship — a landmark exhibit at the museum.Organizers hope community day encourages visitors to keep coming back throughout the season, as new exhibits, programs, and events continue this year.
