Peru high school featured dominant performances from two formidable schools. For the second straight year in a row the Nighthawks and the Saranac high school Spartans swept in the Section VII outdoor track and field championships for Class B and Class C titles respectively. In Class B, The Peru boys’ and girls’ teams outscored Beekmantown high school by at least 43 points or more. Lauren Davey was one of the top Nighthawks on the track, earning three first place finishes in the girls’ triple jump, 100M hurdles and 400M hurdles. Logan Porter was another notable Nighthawk who gained several points for his team. The sophomore placed first in both the 100M and 200M dashes while also setting a new sectional record in boys’ long jump at a mark of 22-6.50. Other athletes who picked up multiple event wins for the Nighthawks include Isaiah Hendrix in the throwing division, Maggie Garrow in the girls’ jumping division and Maddy Welc in the girls’ sprinting division. The Saranac boys’ and girls’ teams exceeded 257 points or more to earn their Class C sectional banner. Braedan Waldon helped the Spartans in a big way with his speed earning 30 points with three first place finishes in the boys 100M, 200M and 400M dashes. Eve Liberty also had a big day with his legs tallying first place finishes in the girls 100M and 200M dashes. Brogan Burrell also grabbed multiple first place wins earning 20 points from the boys triple jump and boys long jump.
