
The Vermont Green F.C women’s team was back in action on Friday night in a game with high stakes. Facing off against Hartford Athletic, the winner of this one would claim the top spot in the Northeast Division.In the 8th minute, Hartford’s Diana Baffor would put one in the back of the net for Hartford Athletic to put them ahead, 1-0. Then in the 34th minute, Emily Mara would set up Olivia Grenda who tapped it in on the left side of the net to tie things up, 1-1. Things would remain that way through the second half. Grenda would cross it in, and Cailtin Mara tried to tap it in with some contact from the defender. The refs wouldn’t throw a card as the game played on. VGFC would continue searching for an advantage as Lauren DeGroot would tap it to a teammate and as the Hartford goalkeeper would get taken out, Hartford’s Taylor Jenkins made a huge save to avoid a Green score. The game would end in a 1-1 draw. The Green remain in the top spot of the division as they earn one point for the draw, totaling 12 on the year. Hartford sits at second with nine. Abby Carchio, Vermont Green F.C. head coach “We see them again and that’s an opportunity again to really put the nail in the coffin there,” Vermont Green F.C. head coach, Abby Carchio, said. “From the very beginning of the season, this conference is one of the best ones in the country, so we’re going to fight tooth and nail. Obviously, it’s frustrating tonight not to get the three points, but we’ll take one and we’ll move forward with it.”The Green will be back in action on Tuesday, June 16, as they take on the Hudson Valley Crusaders. That game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
