Northern New York man arrested on kidnapping, assault charges in Oswegatchie
OSWEGATCHIE, N.Y. —
A North Country man is behind bars after police said he tried to kidnap a person from their home in Oswegatchie.
The St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department arrested Michael Smaciak II, 49, of Ogdensburg, on Sunday after they said he broke into a home on State Route 812 and forcefully removed the victim.

Smaciak later ran away from the home and was arrested by deputies. He is being charged with second-degree kidnapping, assault and burglary.
Smaciak was ordered held at the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility on $25,000 bail.
