Morning Checkup: Lung Cancer & Diagnosis

WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – It’s important to detect lung cancer as early as possible.

Dr. Aaliya Burza is the attending physician for Samaritan’s Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.

She says lung cancer kills more men and women than the next three cancers — breast, colorectal, and prostate — combined.

In many cases, it’s too late by the time symptoms show up. But if the disease is caught at stage one, there’s a 90% to 95% chance of a cure.

The key is knowing your risk factors, which include smoking, being around second-hand smoke, radon exposure, and family history.

To find out more, you can call Samaritan Pulmonology at 315-786-0254 or visit samaritanhealth.com/lung-care.
