
The Missisquoi Valley Union High School softball team celebrated its senior day in a big way. The Thunderbirds battled back from an early 3-0 deficit against Champlain Valley Union High School to take the eventual 9-4 victory.In the bottom of the second inning, senior catcher Lillianna Fournier blasted a ball over the left field fence, leading to a grand slam, which gave the Thunderbirds a 5-3 lead, which they did not relinquish. Senior Addison Gates started on the mound for MVU and picked up the eventual win, retiring several CVU batters in the process. Gates and Fournier joined fellow senior Avery Guyette with a pregame senior day celebration prior to the first pitch. Each senior was escorted onto the field with their closest family and friends, taking a picture together for one of their final games at their home field, which they refer to as “The Pit.”Mount Abraham High School boys’ lacrosse also found the win column, earning a 12-5 victory against Bellows Free Academy Fairfax High School.
